Getting Ready for the Rest of the Year!posted on 5 August 2010 | posted in New Blog! | ( 3 ) CommentsDare I say it ... but the retail industry is starting to get ready for xmas! I opened up the shop this morning and sitting on the mat ready and waiting from the postman was a Christmas 2010 catalogue from one of our suppliers! As a person, I'm quick enough to get ready for the festive season, I love it, but even I think August is a tad too early! What do you think? Walking down the high street in early august we find huge summer sales from the leading high street stores already taking place, but does this put more pressure on us as perspective buyers? Do we feel the need to buy things so far in advance just to be 'on-trend'? Or are the shops themselves so desperate to turn over gross amounts of stock that they have to sell off summer dresses half price at the end of July? The upside of this is that those of us going away in late July/August get a bargain new wardrobe, but quickly feel out of date. At Wikijum we try and keep away from these trends, stock is reduced when we feel it has been in store too long or if we need to boost the sales for the week, but we don't indulge in over-the-top sales. My view is that it can't be ethical, this throw away society we seem to have created, but what I would really like to find out, is what the lovely visitors of this website think? :-) Emma at Wikijum Share this blog entry:

It`s true that you say everyone seems to have a sale on, I picked up some great summer bargains for my holiday in august. But I suppose retail has to be so far in advance of every holiday etc. I manage a shop myself and its the same case there. The stock just has to be shifted. Do you not do a similar thing in your store? Great website btw, very colourful and helpful. :-) x

I think you`re right that we seem to throw away such a lot, but what i would like to see is shops selling high quality clothes that we can get some decent wear out of. So many stores today sell stock that will last one season and the quality is shocking.
